Outside Sinop:
- Akliman Bay: Akliman (White Harbour), is situated at the northernmost tip of Sinop Province and Turkey, called Inceburun (Cape Ince). ( 20 minutes from Sinop city center) The Lighthouse in Inceburun is about 10km away from Akliman.
- Hamsilos Bay: Just north of Akliman. A beautiful spot to swim, rent a boat and enjoy nature.
- Sarıkum Lake (Yellow sand Lake): 30 minutes drive west from Sinop. A beautiful spot Nature !
- Erfelek area: A group of 30 waterfalls called Tatlıca waterfalls- fantastic. They are about 40 min drive southwest of Sinop
- In Ayancık: On the Black sea coast, 1 hour drive west of Sinop. Around there you will find several caves that you can visit.
Ordu:
Only 19km outside Ordu is the Ordu-Giresun Airport (OGU). It is an airport on an artificial island just off the coast of Gülyalı, a town in Ordu Province. (picture from sabah.com.tr)
If you are travelling by car along the Black Sea coast, half way between Samsun and Trabzon lies Ordu.
Ordu and the coast of ordu Province is known for their hazelnuts (Turkey is the first world hazelnut producer and exporter- They produce about 70% of the total world supply and about 60% of the crop is produced in the Eastern Black Sea Region.
Ordu is also rich in mushrooms (in their season). They grow porcini and chanterelles mushrooms
If you have to spend some time in Ordu, have a walk in the Taşbaşı district and the Ordu City center

Trabzon:
Trabzon has a history dating back to the 5th Century BC. There are very nice things to see in town and many around Trabzon. The Trabzon airport (TZX) is very close to the city.

Trabzon is known for its cheeses. A good place to buy local ones is:

Don’t forget to visit the Trabzon Museum, the Aya Sofya Museum, the Atatürk Summer-Villa, the Church of Santa Maria, the Kızlar (Virgins’) Monastery, the Vazelon Monastery (Cosandere Mah. Maçka Yolu, No:36 ) and the most famous Sumela Monastry while in Trabzon.
Sumela Monastery
In the Altındere Valley, the Sumela Monastry is an ancient Orthodox Monastery. Build on 1200 meters height and is absolute worthwhile seeing.
>> Note: The Monastery has been closed in 2015 for mayor renovations, reopened partially on the 25th of May 2019 and was then fully reopened on July 1st, 2021.

If you want to visit the Sumela Monastery (a must if you are there) and don’t have an own car, there is Eyce tours that organize day trips (http://www.eycetours.com/ ) or the Bus company Ulusoy (http://www.ulusoy.com.tr/)
Sumela Monastery is located 46km south of Trabzon. If you drive with your own car you will need to pay 10TL at the entrance of the Altındere Vadisi Milli Park. Drive then up and park the car at the top where you can start walking the trail to the Monastery (10 min walk - aprox. 1km). The Monastery is open from 9am to 6pm
In the surroundings of Trabzon:
There are two famous "caves" near Trabzon
1) The Karaca Mağarası, located close to Gümüshane, about 100km south-east of Trabzon
2) The Çal Mağarası, located close to Düzköy, about one hour drive south west of Trabzon
3) Sera Gölü is a lake 12.3 km west of Trabzon
4) Hıdırnebi: 36km from Trabzon there is this upland located 1,600 meters above sea level. Enjoy this natural beauty and refreshing climate, Hıdırnebi is the site of a traditional festival that is held every year on the 20th of July.
