Beypazarı
One hour drive west of Ankara you can find Beypazarı. This small town is known for its silverwork, mineral water and carrots.
Walk around the city center and see the Ottoman period buildings and stroll along all the silvershops, fun place to do over a daytrip. There are also several Restautants where you can have a nice simple lunch. Go to Istiklal Mah/ Alaattin Sok. On the outskirts of the city is also the famous 'rock'. Drive up with the car (or walk) and you can have amazing views over the city. Buses leave from Ankamall under the Bridge.

Eskişehir
I really recommend going there once over the day if you have Kids. Go to the Sazova Science and Cultural Park. There is a Planetarium, Fairy Tale castle, restaurants and much more. Also in the city center walk along the Porsuk River and do a Boat trip or even a Gondola trip. There are lots of restaurants and coffee houses along the river. You can go there with the high speed train from Ankara, it takes 1:30 minutes only

Kızılcahamam
Kızılcahamam is a small town known for the hot springs and mineral waters about 80km north of Ankara. When its cold and rainy in Ankara, go to the Patalya Thermal Hotel. They have a big heated outside pool, hamam and more. Its also very nice if you go to the Soğuksu National park few minutes away from there for a nice walk in the woods. In summer times also great for pic-nicks.

Tepetaklak Ev or an Upside Down House at ‘Neşeli Köy’ Ever thought of finally defeating gravity and walking on the ceiling? This house is a great entertainment for kids and even more so for grown-ups. It brings you right back into your childhood days and makes you feel like Alice in Wonderland. Stroll through the rooms without being afraid to stumble against anything and hey, don’t forget to take those cool “upside down” pictures to share with friends and family. In addition, enjoy the beautiful green garden café with freely walking chickens, geez and cats, while your kids are off to the playground. They can also take a pony ride or feed a rabbit. And definitely try the delicious “eggplant gözleme”! |
Take the Eskişehir road, after passing Yaşamkent on your left, continue another 10 km, make a U-turn immediately after you see Çankaya University on the right and Turkuaz on the left. Continue until the first Petrol Ofisi gas station and make a right turn at “Cadde Hare” wedding restaurant gates.
From Cepa AVM it will take you about 25 minutes by car. More information you can find at their website or check at Google maps.

Gavurkale
For a peaceful couple of hours out of Ankara, take the D750 (Mevlana Blv) south out of Ankara and take the right to Haymana on the D260. After 40km make the right onto the turn to Deriköy, and in the village, take the right to Sarıgöl. After 2km, take the unmarked track to the right for 1km. A short walk to the top for great views, the ancient funeral chamber and the spectacular reliefs. You can then head down to Haymana or continue on to Polatlı, where there are any number of food options, and onto Yassıhüyük to visit the Gordion museum and Tümuli. Recommended by: Mick Tainton |
Inönü Caves (İnönü Mağaraları)
Inönü caves are situated near the small town of Güdül just over one hour out of Ankara. These caves, which were probably carved during the Byzantium period, resemble those that can be seen in the Cappadocia region of Turkey. Definitely well worth a visit. There is a 25 lira fee (June 2024) upon entry and a picnic/BBQ area below the cliff face. It's also a perfect area for hikers. There are two routes to get there. The Ayaş route has no tolls but the road is slightly rougher. Not too bad though. Google map link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/tpc2oBtNadDWqZg6A?g_st=ac Recommended by: Rabia Smith |
